# Melt Pool > A root-cause reader for jar candles. Enter 1 to 5 candles with the jar width, the wax left, the number of wicks, how long you usually burn it, what you have seen (tunnel, black soot, big or flickering flame, drowning wick, mushroom on the wick) and a short note. The page works out the full-pool time, flags a jar too wide for its wicks and burns that are too short or too long, estimates the hours and evenings left above the stop line, and gives each candle a free verdict by a fixed rule, drawn as glass jars on a mantel. One metered run names the root cause of every symptom, the fix at that root, the tempting patch to skip and what to do on the next burn. URL: https://melt-pool.skillsafe.ai/ API: https://melt-pool.skillsafe.ai/api.html ## The numbers and the verdict rule (free, in the browser) Full pool: 1 hour per 2.5 cm of width per wick, rounded to the half hour, at least 1 hour and at most 4. More than 10 cm of width per wick is too wide. A usual burn under the full-pool time is a short burn; over 4 hours is a long burn. Hours left (an estimate): the wax above the 1.3 cm stop line as a cylinder, 0.9 g per cm3, 5 g an hour per wick; evenings are those hours at the full-pool time. Per candle, checked in order, first match wins: 1. Retire it - 1.3 cm of wax or less. 2. Fix first - any symptom seen, or too wide, short burns or long burns. 3. Keep burning - otherwise. When no symptom is seen, the page also gives the next step for free (retire, burn to the full pool, put it out by 4 hours, or keep burning). ## The metered run (task "diagnose") Input strings: task, shelf (the page's lines), notes. Reply: one JSON object with a headline, candles (1 per candle in shelf order: candle, verdict copied from the page, causes - 1 per symptom, each from a fixed list walked in order - root_cause, root_fix, skip, next_burn) and a closing. The page re-checks every verdict, the order of the causes, each root cause, every number and the word limits. ## Sources - Built on the SkillSafe skill @cursor/principle-fix-root-causes: https://skillsafe.ai/skill/@cursor/principle-fix-root-causes For fun and everyday candle care, not professional or safety advice.
